Western fans can get a steam train joyride and observe the scenic Black Hills by simply visiting the Central Railroad. Even though the times of sheriffs have passed, the train offers an experience straight out of a movie. Set aside a little over two hours of your day and glide across the plains as the train huffs and puffs.
Don’t miss the opportunity though as the ride only operates until the middle of October. You can reserve a ticket for departure from either Hill City or Keystone, so what are you waiting for? You’ll even have your own personal narrator to make the trip more enjoyable!
For history buffs, here’s a bit of info on the train. It started working in 1957, meaning it’s a bit over 60, and was used for the needs of mines and mills. It’s also the oldest standard gauge excursion train that’s still operating, in the U.S. at least.
And that’s not even all as the train hosts two exclusive events, Wine Express and Oktoberfest. We’re sure neither of these two needs further explanation. So kick back, relax, and enjoy your venture to the Wild West.
